“Rumination is not a very healthy way of processing emotion,” said Scott Langenecker, associate professor of psychiatry and psychology at UIC and corresponding author of the study. “Rumination is a risk factor for depression and for reoccurrence of depression if you’ve had it in the past.”

The Applied Psychology Program is a special option for the bachelors degree in the Department of Psychology at UIC. You take courses in psychological testing, research design, statistics and special applied courses in interviewing, interventions or industrial/organizational psychology. You focus on direct skill building for fieldwork in addition to theoretical knowledge.
