In case you are considering cosmetic surgery you need to think about it extensively so that you do not make a permanent mistake. There are some paramount things that you should consider. Why do you need the surgery? What are your expectations?

    Need & expectations for surgery

Plastic surgery involves a cost and risk. It has the ability of changing your physical appearance in a way that you did not expect and sometimes leaving you unhappy. Therefore, it is important to make sure that plastic surgery is exactly what you need.

You should avoid taking the procedures simply because other people want you to. You should also avoid taking these surgical procedures because you want a particular job. As long as you are content with your appearance you should avoid anyone putting pressure on you to have plastic surgery.

You are most likely to be satisfied with the results of surgery as long as you have a clear understanding and realistic expectations why you need the surgery. Decide exactly the areas you want improved or changed. Then consider discussing these goals with the doctor.

The doctor will be in a place to tell you whether the goals are realistic. He/she will also help you find the best for achieving the goals. Looking at photos of desirable features you will be assisted to decide exactly what you want. However, you will be reminded that the surgery is intended to enhance your features as opposed to acquiring the physical appearance of people who you admire.

    Hair transplantation

One of the popular cosmetic surgical procedures is the hair transplant performed to remedy the loss of hair. Hair loss (alopecia) has the ability of affecting the entire body or the scalp. It is normally the result of certain medications, underlying medical condition and heredity. Anyone including children, men and women can experience the loss of hair.

Many of these people experience baldness which is the excessive loss of hair from the scalp. Some people choose to allow the baldness to run its course unhidden and untreated. Other people choose to cover the baldness with makeup, hairstyles, hats or scarves. Others choose surgical procedures or medications to help treat hair loss.

Before choosing any treatment option, it is important to discuss with the doctor about the causes of the condition and the possible treatment of the nature of hair loss. The loss of hair can appear in different ways depending on the problems causing it. The condition can manifest gradually or suddenly and thus affect the scalp or the whole body. Some of the hair losses are permanent while others are temporary.

Traumatic brain injury (TBI) has remained a major cause of mortality, morbidity and leading cause of large-scale disabilities worldwide. TBI results in a large number of deaths and a cause of permanent disabilities with enormous losses to individuals, families, and communities [1]. World Health Organization (WHO), in 2004, has estimated that 25% of road traffic collisions requiring admission to a hospital suffered TBI [13]. Pathophysiology of TBI involves two main phases: these are primary injury following the trauma, and the secondary injury which is mediated by inflammatory response to trauma.
However, no effective therapy or program is available for treatment of individuals with TBI; nonetheless, researchers had tried some therapeutic agents like levodopa/carbidopa and some neurotrophic factors in brain injury with persistent vegetative state with the aim of augmenting and slowing the progression from persistent vegetative state into some degree of consciousness. This still needs experimentation to confirm if these dopamine precursors and other neurotrophic factors have any role in TBI.
Solomon O. Ugoya and Jian Tu from Australian School of Advanced Medicine, Macquarie University; and Technology Place, North Ryde, Sydney, Australia, respectively, have stated that Neural stem cells (NSCs) have recently been shown to contribute to the cellular re-modeling that occurs following TBI and attention has been drawn to the area of neural stem cell as possible therapy for TBI. The NSCs may play an important role in the treatment of TBI by replacing the damaged cells and eventual remyelination. They also pointed out that they can achieve the translation of basic knowledge of neural stem cells into therapeutic options in persons with TBI by enhancing and integrating these neural progenitor cells (NPCs) unto neurogenesis and directing these cells to the specified targets or through multi-potency where the transplanted cells can differentiate into glial cells, neurons, and endothelial cells, as the i confirm if these dopamine precursors and other neurotrophic factors have any role in TBI.
Solomon O. Ugoya and Jian Tu from Australian School of Advanced Medicine, Macquarie University; and Technology Place, North Ryde, Sydney, Australia, respectively, have stated that Neural stem cells (NSCs) have recently been shown to contribute to the cellular re-modeling that occurs following TBI and attention has been drawn to the anjuries are not always selective but diffuse and we may need to induce these transplanted cells into appropriate phenotype.
Neural stem cell therapy is a strategy that offers hope in the future for treatment of brain injury. In addition, we are now able to monitor autologous neural stem cells in vivo, cell migration and clearly demonstrate that neural stem cells could selectively target injured brain or spinal cord tissue and undergo neurogenesis.
Recently, more attention has been drawn to the area of stem cell therapy, largely due to advanced knowledge about stem cells. The stem cells may play an important role in the treatment of TBI by replacing damaged cells, and helping functional recovery. The search for stem cell therapy for TBI is progressing.

Currently federal regulators are considering overhauling 911 emergency services to improve response times and efficiency. However, some individuals with elderly relatives that live alone have opted to take action on their own by purchasing a medical response system.

Medical attention within the first 90 minutes of a heart attack, stroke or a fall enhances the chances of recovery for the victim. With an average response time between 30 to 45 seconds, medical alert systems do their best to ensure emergency personnel arrive on the scene in speedy fashion.

Personal Emergency Response System (PERS): The Basics

Known as senior alarm systems among other names, PERS are devices allowing individuals to receive assistance in the event of an emergency. Medical alarm systems typically consist of two components:

Help Button: A wireless device that can be worn on the body as a pendant or wristband.

Communicator: The base unit of the system. This two-way device plugs into the user’s home telephone line.

In the event of an emergency, users can activate the system by pressing the button on their wireless device. An emergency dispatcher then responds to the call, directly speaking with the user via the two way speakerphone on the communicator. After determining the kind of help needed, the dispatcher has the option calling someone on the user’s emergency call list. This list typically includes up to three people who are available to assist the user if contacted by a dispatcher. In emergency situations or if verbal communications with the user cannot be established, the dispatcher will proceed to immediately contact paramedics.

    A Sense of Security

Research shows medical alarm systems provide users and their families with a sense of security. But this sense is more than just a feeling, as one study found medical monitoring systems drastically reduced mortality rates and cut hospital use by nearly 60 percent.

Despite the benefits medical alarm systems provide to older adults, only 16 percent of seniors participating in the study had a PERS in their homes. With baby boomers expected to increase the elderly population to 54 million in 2020, a heightened awareness of the benefits medical alert devices offer could prolong the independence and well-being of many seniors to come.

The pulp is the hollow inner core of the tooth that contains nerves, blood vessels, connective tissue and reparative cells (see Figure 1). In children, dental caries (cavities) and traumatic injury are the two main indications for pulpal therapy (also known as -paediatric root canal,- -pulpotomy- or -pulpectomy-). The primary objective of pulpal therapy is to maintain the integrity and health of the teeth and supporting tissues; thus, its treatment objective is to maintain the vitality of the pulp of a tooth affected by caries or traumatic injury.

In young permanent teeth with immature roots, the pulp is important for the continuation of apexogenesis (the continuation of the closure of the tip of the root, or apex, as the child gets older). Long-term retention of a permanent tooth requires a root with a favourable crown/root ratio and dentinal walls that are thick enough to withstand normal function. Therefore, pulp preservation is the primary goal for the treatment of young permanent dentition. A tooth without a vital pulp, however, can still remain clinically functional.

The vitality of the pulp is the most important focus of a dental examination and check-up because it is the basis of the indications, objectives and type of pulpal therapy that will be used. The pulp may be classified as normal (i.e., symptom free and with normal response to vitality testing), with reversible pulpitis (i.e., the pulp is capable of healing), with symptomatic or asymptomatic irreversible pulpitis (i.e., vital inflamed pulp is incapable of healing), or necrotic pulp.

    The clinical diagnosis is derived from a comprehensive review of the medical and dental history, including current symptoms and chief complaint; subjective evaluation of the area associated with the current symptoms/chief complaint, which is accomplished by questioning the child and parent(s) on the location, intensity, duration, stimulus, relief and spontaneity of pain;

objective extraoral examination and intraoral soft and hard tissue examination; radiograph(s) to diagnose pulpitis or necrosis showing the involved tooth, furcation, periapical area and the surrounding bone; and clinical tests such as palpation, percussion and mobility.

A treatment plan should include the following:

    1. The patient’s medical history

    2. The value of each involved tooth in relation to the child’s overall development

    3. Alternatives to pulp treatment

    4. Restorability of the tooth.
